How do I ask his intentions?

I am thinking of "getting together" with this guy (I'm a woman, just to clarify) and I'm not sure what I want to get out of it....either just be fwb, or who knows, right now I just want to have a buddy. But I want to know if it were to develop into something how would he feel about that? How do I ask him that?
